 Amb Gbenga Akinwunmi Empowers Youths.

The Legislative Hall of Oshodi-Isolo local government was filled to the brim" as Ambassador Gbenga Akinwunmi who is an Ecowas Youth Ambassador fulfilled his promise of training and empowering youths with the Oshodi locality.

It should be recalled that the philanthropic Ecowas Youth Ambassador has kicked off his free training and empowerment programme about two months ago. The program was in two phases: the first being the intensive training of participants in various skill set and the second phase was the provision of tools and materials relevant to their skill sets to the outstanding students. 

The aim of the program was not only to train but to empower the participants so that they can start their businesess and be self-employed. Speaking during the epoch event, Amb Gbenga Akinwunmi disclosed that "the aim of the program was to take youths off the street by training them and also provide tools that they will use in practising their trade. At the planning stage of this programme, our aim was to train and empower 80 people but due to the overwhelming requests from our people, we had to increase the slot to 120".

"Our students were allocated to the facilitators whom trained them intensively and today, we will be empowering some students that have performed exceptional well during the course of the training", he concluded.

Materials distributed include sewing machines, clippers, sterilizing machine, sets of baking equipments,  hair dryer, laptops, make-up boxes, Roman Pots (flower style), to mention but a few. Dignitaries at the event include Hon. Mamora Abiodun, who represented Dr. Bashir Dawodu (MHR representing Oshodi Federal Constituency 1), Vice Chairman of the council, Hon. Modupe Badmus-Aregbe, who represented the chairman, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, Hon. Temitope Ige-Adegba (Hon. Councillor representing Ewu ward), Hon. Adesanya Afeez (Coordinator, UNDP), Hon. Gideon Balogun and host of others.

During the course of the program, Oshodi-Isolo local government chairman, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, was also awarded for his sterling performance geared towards transforming Oshodi environment.

Mr. Oladapo Dotun, one of the beneficiaries of a sewing machine, appreciated Amb Gbenga Akinwunmi for his humane gesture. He disclosed that "I am grateful to God and particularly to Amb Gbenga Akinwunmi for the provision of this sewing machine. He trained us by paying in full to our masters and also give us equipments to start our own business. I pray that God Almighty will continue to bless him", he concluded.

Another beneficiary, Miss Wunmi Adedokun, who benefited a full set of baking equipments was also full of praises and prayers for the Ambassador for his philanthropic gestures at taking the youths off the street. 

Guest speakers at the event however urged the beneficiaries to make the  best use of the materials so that the desire of the sponsor towards making them self-employed and self-sufficient can be fulfilled.
